Thinking of doing a PhD with me?
Mentoring doctoral students is one of the best parts of my job, and a lot of my time goes to it. Here is what to know before you reach out.
What my students work on
Students work with data from our ongoing studies and often build their dissertations from them:
- HIV prevention and care in New York City and sub-Saharan Africa, through Central Africa IeDEA, Together 5000, and AMETHST
- Influenza, RSV, and COVID-19 in Project PROTECTS and the CHASING COVID Cohort
- Wastewater surveillance in hospitals and communities
- Extreme weather and health, through WEATHERing HIV
Across these, students learn causal inference methods for observational data, implementation science, and how surveillance systems work in practice.
Who does well here
Students who are curious about public health problems that matter in practice, comfortable with quantitative methods or eager to get there, and who like writing and working on a team. Prior experience in a health department, a research program, or fieldwork is a plus but not required.
How to apply
Apply through the PhD in Epidemiology at the CUNY Graduate School of Public Health and Health Policy. The program page covers deadlines, requirements, and funding.
